engagement :: music pathways

The Chicago Public Schools have nearly eliminated music from the curriculum, thus limiting the potential of thousands of children, and severely threatening the development of future audiences and arts supporters for our great cultural institutions.

CYSO recognizes a need and is working to fill it.

Music Pathways is a unique student-to-student outreach program which reaches approximately 5,000 inner-city Chicago Public School students each season.

Concert Orchestra students selected for the Principal Players program participate in Music Pathways through a series of instrument family performance-demonstration visits aimed at 2nd-4th graders at selected elementary schools. An overall program theme is selected which supports a wide variety of school activities. The program culminates by bringing all instrument families together in a performance of the full Concert Orchestra. For many of the students touched by Music Pathways, this concert will be the first time they hear a full orchestra live!
