The SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, under the leadership of Music Director Allen Tinkham, is a full 125-piece symphony orchestra composed of the top high school-age musicians in the Chicagoland area selected by highly competitive annual auditions each spring. Now in its 60th season, the Symphony Orchestra has achieved international recognition for its excellence and innovation, and has gained a reputation for producing the next generation of professional musicians. The Symphony Orchestra's annual season includes fall and spring concerts at Orchestra Hall, run-out concerts, and educational performances. Symphony Orchestra musicians benefit from intensive professional-level training including coaching by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera Orchestra, local university professors, and other noted musicians and teachers. Individual orchestra members have won numerous prizes in a wide variety of competitions including the annual CYSO Concerto Competition.
