Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras Presents Special Concert at the Chicago Cultural Center

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 – 7:30 pm

The CYSO Concert Orchestra will be performing a free concert at the Sidney R. Yates Gallery in the Chicago Cultural Center on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.  Under the direction of CYSO Associate Conductor, Terrance Oliveras Gray the orchestra will perform a new work by contemporary composer Mike McFerron, as well as classics by Dragonetti, Haydn, and Tchaikovsky.  McFerron is an associate professor of music and composer-in-residence at Lewis University and he is founder and co-director of Electronic Music Midwest.  The orchestra will perform the first in a series of compositions for youth orchestra, Heroic Overture #1Cuchulainn, named for the hero of the Ulster Cycle, an early Irish Gaelic literary work written around the 1st century BCE.

The Concert Orchestra provides advanced orchestral training and performs fall, spring and educational concerts at various Chicago area locations, including Orchestra Hall, Mandel Hall and the South Shore Cultural Center.  The orchestra also performs for Chicago Public School students as part of the Music Pathways program.
This event is free and open to the public.

About the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO):
In 1946, a group of talented young musicians dreamed of a place where they could come together and perform the greatest orchestral works with other students who shared a love of music.   Over sixty years and thousands of students later, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) is where the Chicago area’s best 7 – 18 year-old musicians begin their journey to become professional musicians.
