Listen to the Future!
Hear what CYSO coaches, students, parents and friends have to say about CYSO.
Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras Newsletter
September 2006
Greetings from the CYSO!
It's time to kick off the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras' 60th anniversary season.
This season has already seen the CYSO perform at Ravinia's 101st birthday celebration to great success. The concert was absolutely lovely as our students performed works by Mozart, de Falla, and Marquez before a full house. I was very proud of all of the intense work put forth this summer. Many thanks to Fulcrum Point's Stephen Burns for the superb training and conducting of our students in this performance and pianist Inon Barnatan and vocalist Elizabeth DeShong for helping to make the event extra special. I also want to applaud the CYSO family and friends who attended the concert in support of our students. We sincerely appreciate your involvement.
I know that you are looking forward to the 2006-2007 60th Anniversary season as much as we are. Last Saturday the Symphony Orchestra performed at Orchestra Hall for the Macy's Day of Music and if you missed this opportunity you can see them at Orchestra Hall once again on November 12th for the annual fall concert. Preparatory Strings and Debut Orchestra will perform on November 21st at DePaul University's Concert Hall; the Concert Orchestra will return to the Chicago Cultural Center this season on December 5th. In addition to these concerts, we were honored by an invitation from the Chicago History Museum to have the Encore Chamber Orchestra perform at their Grand Re-Opening and 150th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, October 1st. As part of this concert, there will be a special performance of Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait narrated by former newscaster and A&E host Bill Kurtis. We hope that you will be able to attend this “historic” event.
I was also glad to see many parents and students at the annual Symphony Orchestra retreat last weekend, bringing an end to a fruitful summer. With the change in season, the CYSO embarks on another new year of providing the highest quality music training, education and community engagement programs for students in the Chicago metropolitan area. I speak for the Board and staff of the CYSO when I say that we can't wait to get the season going, and wish to see you all at performances throughout the season.
All best,
Holly

Welcome Back Students!
Upon my return from an amazing summer, I am thrilled to see the excitement and focus in the eyes of our new and returning students.
It is their passion that keeps the CYSO alive. These students are truly the future of classical music. As I continue to listen to these young musicians, I find their talent is so exemplary I forget they are students.
It is this level of commitment that makes the CYSO what is is today. I invite you to join us this year as we celebrate the past 60 years and continue to Listen to the Future!
Sincerely,
Allen Tinkham
