60th Anniversary Gala Celebration a Raving Success!
While most of Chicago was bundled up inside, the CYSO was celebrating! On February 3, 2007 the CYSO 60th Anniversary Gala Celebration was attended by over 300 guests reaching a remarkable total of $200,000 and breaking all previous records for this event.
This Gala, in honor of Rose Ann Grundman, was also a grand tribute to the students, parents and alumni of the organization for their continued dedication to the future of classical music. Guests enjoyed the live and silent auctions, an elegant dinner and a concert by the Symphony Orchestra which featured 60 years of music from the movies.
The abundant talent of our young musicians was evident the enitre evening. Those who attended will tell you how they were amazed by our students' ability to share their energy and excitement from the stage. This is why we remain so confident in the future of classical music.
The 2006-2007 Gala would not have been possible without those who went above and beyond to ensure its success, especially our Board of Directors, Gala Chairman Gary Burns and our corporate sponsors Bank of America, LaSalle Bank, Northern Trust, Seyfarth Shaw, and Winston & Strawn, LLP. Again, I thank all of you who had a hand in this wonderful event, and I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming Spring concerts.
Best,
Holly

Dan Slider
(1974/75, 1975/76)
Trumpet
I have been lucky enough to have found my niche in music since my years in the CYSO. I have written music for the stage (Lido de Paris "C'est Magique"), television movies, ("For The Love Of Nancy, Touched By Evil") and I recently celebrated my anniversary for composing theme and underscore for the longest running entertainment series in ABC-TV's history, "America's Funniest Home Videos". We begin our 18th season this fall. Who would have guessed that a classical music background would prepare me for a career underscoring hits!
I feel that my music education really progressed as a direct result of my affiliation with the CYSO. After my graduation, I entered the Berklee College of Music in Boston and then headed for Los Angeles with further composition/orchestration studies privately with Dr. Albert Harris and Don Ray (UCLA). Eventually, demands on my writing time forced me to have the trumpet take a back seat to my composing career.
Whenever I have the opportunity to record and conduct my music, I reflect on the challenging repertoire I was introduced to by the CYSO. I know that the high level the orchestra performed at was what I would aspire to in my professional musical life. Thanks CYSO for my personal inspiration and your continuing success in turning out some of the country's most cherished players.
Sincerely,
Dan Slider
