( CHICAGO )-The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) today announced details of its 2005-2006 concert season. Highlights of the upcoming schedule, which encompasses 25 events, include Fall and Spring concerts at Orchestra Hall, a joint presentation of The Nutcracker with the Salt Creek Ballet, a Noonday Concert Series at Fourth Presbyterian Church featuring solos by CYSO alumni, and multiple performances at a wide range of Chicago cultural venues. “We have a remarkable season ahead,” says CYSO Music Director Allen Tinkham, “and a schedule of performances that will not only challenge our young musicians, but also delight their audiences.”

New this season is the CYSO's Debut Orchestra. CYSO Associate Conductor Terrance Gray will lead the 60 member Debut Orchestra, which was formed to provide a first full-orchestral experience for young musicians between the Preparatory Strings and the Concert Orchestras on the CYSO continuum of programs. “We're thrilled at the prospects of this new group. We have such incredibly talented musicians. The opportunity to introduce them to the full-orchestra environment and develop their skills within that context is truly exciting,” says Gray.

The CYSO enters its 2005-2006 season having just been awarded the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) first place award for Adventurous Programming by a Youth Orchestra in 2005. The award recognized the CYSO's orchestral leaders Allen Tinkham and Terrance Ray for their exceptional commitment to contemporary composers during the 2004-2005 season and marks the CYSO's fifth ASCAP recognition for commitment to contemporary music.
