As part of its 60th Anniversary Season the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director, Allen Tinkham, will feature an exciting work by contemporary composer Michael Daugherty, and Johannes Brahms Symphony No.1. Also featured on the program is Emma Steele, Symphony Orchestra 2006 Concert Competition winner performing Alexander Glazunov's Concerto for Violin, op.82, A major.
Emma Steele is co-concertmaster of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and concertmaster of the Encore Chamber Orchestra. She has also won first place awards in the Midwest Young Artists Walgreens Competition, Society of American Musicians competitions, and the Chinese Fine Arts Society Music Festival. Emma has received honors in the Johansen International String Competition, Chicago Symphony Youth Auditions, and the Stulberg International String Competition. She has received scholarship awards from the Musicians Club of Women and the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation.
Emma is featured in the recently-released PBS documentary special Circling Around: The Violin Virtuosi. She has performed on Public Radio International's program From the Top , Chicago's classical radio station WFMT, the Skokie Steinway Series, the Taste of Chicago Comcast Stage, and at City Hall for Mayor Daley.
