Prior to his appointment in Chicago, he served for two seasons as Apprentice Conductor of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Recent engagements includes the symphonies of Dubuque, Kansas City, and St. Louis, as well as All-State Festivals in Florida, Maryland, Rhode Island and New York. He has been featured on the American Symphony Orchestra League's Conductor Preview (2003), and was one of only three Americans selected to participate in the 14th International Nicolai Malko Competition for Young Conductors in Copenhagen, Denmark. Tinkham received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in 1996 and his Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in 1998. His principal teachers include Murry Sidlin, Kenneth Kiesler, and David Effron. At the University of Michigan, he served as Music Director of the Campus Philharmonia and Campus Symphony Orchestras, the youngest conductor ever to hold these positions. He is also the youngest conductor to receive the Helen and Clyde Wu Conducting Fellowship, the highest award given to a University of Michigan Orchestral Conducting student. He has also studied at the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen (Aspen, CO), the Conductors Retreat at Medomak (Washington, ME), the International Institute for Conductors (Kiev, Ukraine) and Scuola Leonardo da Vinci (Florence, Italy).
