On June, 16 2009, members of CYSO's Symphony Orchestra embarked on an exciting thirteen-day tour of Argentina and Uruguay. During the tour, the Symphony Orchestra performed full orchestral concerts in some of South America’s most prestigious concert halls. Although CYSO has completed several successful international tours to Europe and Asia, this is the first time that the Orchestra performed in the southern hemisphere.
In addition to performing at world class venues, CYSO students engaged in a variety of cultural activities and exchanges designed to educate them about the history, culture and customs of their host countries. Students took guided tours of each city, including visits to historical buildings, neighborhoods and museums. In addition, Symphony Orchestra students had the opportunity to meet with their Uruguayan counterparts in Montevideo. CYSO hosted an open rehearsal before the Teatro Solis concert with the young musicians and over 800 students of the host city to share music methods and techniques.
