The Music Theory program is designed to create a working knowledge of written theory and aural skills that improve students’ capacity to understand and perform music at a higher level. The program features an Intermediate and Advanced Theory course available to Debut Orchestra and Concert Orchestra students, respectively.

CYSO’s Composition Seminar, comprised of Symphony Orchestra and Concert Orchestra students, provides
student composers with the opportunity to develop their compositional voice through improvisation, listening
exercises, score analysis, historical analysis and private composition lessons.
