I absolutely love performing for any type of audience, big or small. CYSO makes it possible to have a blast while playing in great orchestras and doing what I love most- playing music.
While in the Concert Orchestra, I had the opportunity to play in the Principal Players String Quartet. This was probably one of my favorite experiences while in CYSO so far. We got to go to four Chicago Public Schools. Our quartet played one piece for little kids, usually 2nd and 3rd graders. Then, we would teach them about our instruments and about the piece. We had a great time answering questions and helping these kids (who have limited resources at their schools) learn about music. I also got along great with the kids in the quartet. We shared a ton of laughs and had fun spreading our love of music.
I had so much fun at Concert Orchestra concerts. I love the feeling of being onstage, playing some of my favorite orchestra pieces! Playing at Symphony Center was so cool! It was so exciting being able to play in a place where so many people come to see great concerts! I felt so lucky to be sitting up front with some of the best musicians in the region and playing a piece with them. It was another experience I will truly never forget.
I am so glad that I am part of CYSO. I am excited to finally be playing in the Symphony Orchestra and to see my friends from the Concert Orchestra. Rehearsing for a long time every week is DEFINITELY worth it.
