My CYSO Story
Thomas Ribas
Symphony Orchestra, Trumpet
I have been playing the trumpet for about ten and a half years. Being a member of CYSO’s Symphony Orchestra has enabled me to experience my favorite thing about being a musician.

You can become a totally different person when you are playing, and you start to overcome fears and shyness.

When I'm performing, I really like the anxiety that builds up throughout your whole body right before you play and then when you start to play it goes away and becomes confidence and passion for the music. All the many concerts and recitals I have played in while at CYSO have enabled me to experience that over and over again.

I really enjoy listening to and playing arrangements of Bach for piccolo trumpet. Baroque music is my favorite style of music overall, and Bach just makes the music so enjoyable to play both on fast and slow pieces. I love the fact that I have been able to play many Baroque style pieces along with pieces of other styles while performing in the Symphony Orchestra.

Outside of music, I like playing soccer as much as I can and watching movies. I’ve also always wanted to play the French horn or clarinet like my father. The sound of the horn gives me goose bumps every time I hear it and the clarinet just has a beautiful tone and floating-like sound. I know my experiences at CYSO will enable me to do whatever I would like to do in the future.
