Hello from Montevideo on our last night of the CYSO South American Tour! We have had some internet trouble, but we’re back online. So, we’re excited to fill you in on our last day and a half of adventures.

We held an open rehearsal yesterday morning with the Orquesta Sinfonica Jose Artigas (the Uruguayan youth orchestra) and music students from across the country. We were so happy to see Teatro Solis packed with 800 children for this unique experience!

Some of the Uruguyan students traveled over an hour to see orchestral instruments in person for the very first time. It was touching and extremely inspiring to see our CYSO kids interact with the Uruguayan youth. Despite language barriers, their actions spoke louder than words.
The final concert of the tour last night was more than what would be considered a success. Not only was it a benefit concert to raise money for the Orquesta Sinfonica Jose Artigas, the program of Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegels Lustige Streich, Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Dvorak’s New World Symphony was breathtaking. The Montevideo crowd was so impressed that they cheered for not one, but two, encores.

Maestro Tinkham congratulated the kids by saying, “In my eight years at CYSO, I honestly can not think of a better concert than the one you all played tonight. I am so proud.”
