Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras is where the future of orchestral music begins. We endeavor to cultivate and nurture talented young musicians from all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds represented in metropolitan Chicago, an area so rich in diversity and culture that it truly can be considered an international city.
Whether it is one of our CYSO ensemble musicians or a Chicago Public School student in Music Pathways, young people throughout Chicago learn how they can be actively engaged in the world of classical music.
With over 60 years of experience serving young musicians and families in this area, we consider it a privilege to bear the name “Chicago” in our title. We continue to be a part of this most vibrant landscape of musicians who represent a long-standing tradition of excellence.
CYSO provides an open door for students who want to learn about orchestral music in an environment that also offers the chance to develop life-long skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, organization and presentation skills through intensive musical training. The focus is on education and the outcome is artistic.
CYSO students work hard at their craft within the context of an ensemble or group setting. This allows for an important bond of friendship to develop between young colleagues which transcends many of the pressures and challenges facing today’s teens.
