CYSO presents Mahler No. 5 and receives 2010 Youth Orchestra of the Year Award at Orchestra Hall

CYSO's Symphony Orchestra is proud to present a program featuring Gustav Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 5 at Symphony Center's Orchestra Hall on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 7:30 pm. The journey through this fantastic symphony will follow a performance of Leonard Bernstein's popular West Side Story Overture and CYSO's Concert Orchestra performing Danzón No. 4 by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez.

CYSO is honored to be receiving two Illinois Council of Orchestras awards for excellence in the field of music. The organization will be presented with the award for 2010 Youth Orchestra of the Year at the concert. The award for Board President of the Year will be presented to CYSO Board Chair John Schladweiler, who has been a member of the CYSO Board of Directors for two decades, and has served as Board Chair two different times to lead the organization to great success at home and abroad.

CYSO's Symphony Orchestra is an internationally recognized ensemble consisting of the most advanced young musicians from the greater Chicago area. The orchestra performs semi-annually at Symphony Center's Orchestra Hall and participates in educational programs and collaborations with the region's top cultural institutions and ensembles.
