CYSO Receives Eighth ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming

26 American orchestras were recognized with 2008-2009 ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming last week at the League of American Orchestras’ 64th Annual Conference in Chicago.  Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras received an Award for Programming of Contemporary Music.  This award is especially significant as only three of the 26 orchestras that were recognized were youth orchestras.  This is the eighth time CYSO has been honored with an ASCAP award.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the League present the awards each year to orchestras of all sizes for programs that challenge the audience, build the repertoire, and increase interest in music of our time.  More than a million dollars has been bestowed on orchestras since the awards were established in 1947.

About Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO):
In 1946, a group of talented young musicians dreamed of a place where they could come together and perform the greatest orchestral works with other students who shared a love of music. Over sixty years and thousands of students later, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) is the place where inspired youth begin their journey to become outstanding musicians and leaders of tomorrow.  Visit www.cyso.org to learn more.
